The Jets played host to the powerful Pittsburgh Penguins Friday night at the MTS Centre after coming off of a convincing win over the Washington Capitals last Tuesday.

Sidney Crosby scored twice in the opening period putting his Penguins up by a pair after 20 minutes but the Jets would battle back in the second period. Goals from Evander Kane and Dustin Byfuglien had the game all tied up and Andrew Ladd put home the go-ahead goal and soon to be winner at 17:54 of the middle frame.

An empty net goal by Blake Wheeler at 18:51 of the third period sealed the deal for the Jets as they took down the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-2. With the win, the Jets sit in 5th place in the Eastern Conference.

The NY Islanders are up next on Sunday night, here at the MTS Centre, game time is 7pm.

FIRST PERIOD

Sidney Crosby opened the scoring for the Penguins at 4:26, picking up his second goal of the season. Chris Kunitz and Kris Letang picked up the assists on the play as Crosby carried the puck down low to the right of Pavelec. He was able to snap a quick shot on net that just found it's way through Ondrej Pavelec, short side. 1-0 Penguins.

Crosby made it 2-0 with five minutes remaining in the second period as he danced across the blueline into the Jets zone. He made a shifty move to dodge around his defender, put the puck to his backhand and flipped it through Pavelec. 2-0 Penguins.

The Jets had a few chances near the end of the period as Evander Kane, Olli Jokinen and Blake Wheeler tried to pull within one, but time would expired. They would hit the dressing room trailing by a pair.

Shots after 20 minutes were 14-12 Penguins.

SECOND PERIOD

The Jets pulled within a goal just 1:10 into the second period as Kane net his second of the season from Wheeler and Byfuglien. Wheeler started the play inside the Penguins zone. He dished the puck to Byfuglien who sent a nice behind the back pass back to him. Wheeler turned and sent a perfect pass onto the tape of Kane waiting in the slot. Kane made no mistake but to fire it past Tomas Vokoun. 2-1 Pens.

Jokinen took the game's first penalty of the night as he sat for two minutes for hooking at 10:51. The Jets only had to kill off 1:10 of the penalty as Evgeni Malkin also got called for hooking ending their man advantage.

Dustin Byfuglien was able to take full advantage of the shortened power play with Malkin still in the box. Ladd started the play cycling the puck to Enstrom who passed it to Byfuglien to blast one of his famous slap shots on the point. Antropov was parked in front of the net acting as a screen and it looked like he might have got a piece of the puck as it flew past Vokoun into the net. Byfuglien got the credit for his second of the season assisted by Enstrom and Ladd. 2-2 Jets at 13:35 of the second.

With 2:06 remaining in the second frame, Ladd picked up a crucial goal to go up on the Penguins for the first time. Bryan Little snatched up a costly turnover on the blueline and quickly got the puck deep into the Pens zone. He took a look and saw a wide open Ladd in the slot. He fed him a nice pass onto the tape for Ladd to finish the play. 3-2 Jets.

After 40 minutes of play the Jets were up 3-2 but the Penguins still led on the shot clock 26-25.

THIRD PERIOD

Deryk Engelland took a penalty for high-sticking at 8:45 of the final period sending the Jets on their second power play of the night. Still holding tight to their one-goal lead, the Jets were eager to add some insurance, but weren't able to capitalize on that advantage.

The insurance did finally came as Kane was able to feed Wheeler streaking up the middle to sink the empty net at 18:51. The extra goal made it a 4-2 final.
